Gabriel Marc Louis Ferro was born in Paris, France in 1903. He was captured by the grey and dismal French industrial marinas and working neighborhoods, always painted in shades of grey rain and yet usually punctuated with a pop of colour, from splashy theatre posters on a dilapidated fence to lipstick red cafe fronts. Despite the gloom there was usually a glimpse of hope.
His art was in the Salon d’Automne in Paris and he attended the Academies Libres in Montparnasse, France. He exhibited in Paris from 1942 at the Salon d’Automne, where he was appointed a member of the Salon that same year. Ferro was also a member of the Salon des Artistes Independants and exhibited at the Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps.
One of his paintings titled ‘Sur le Plateau de Coeuilly, Seine’ was in the private collection of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.
